When one signs up for lifetime validity, he foregoes the option of switching over to another network. “Locking yourself into a scheme may not work for you if call charges come down in the future, which is likely to happen,” says Mahesh Uppal, a Delhi-based telecom consultant. So, it is better to keep your options open instead of locking yourself into lifetime validity with just one service provider, and that too at a rate higher than the prevailing charges.

As it has been rightly pointed out by readers like Rawan & Dashanan, cell phone operators are actually cheating their subscribers in the name of free lifetime schemes. Read the terms and conditions carefully.
1. After recharge of Rs. 999.00 Customer will get Rs. 25 talktime.
2. Outgoing call will be at Rs. 1.99 instead of Rs 0.99
3. Connection will be permanently deactivated if either of the following events i.e. no incoming / outgoing / recharge happens for any continuous period of 6 months.
4. Validity for Lifetime is subject to change in regulatory or license conditions in the future.

This implies: a pre-paid user can continue to receive incoming calls for life after a single recharge, as against the current system of restricted validity, based on the recharge package.
