Rape victim declared “impure” and ostracised
Forced by a religious leader, a Muslim-dominated village in Bihar has asked a rape victim to leave the place after calling her ‘napak’ (impure) for giving birth to a child.
The husband has also deserted Sabia, a mute woman in her 20s and mother of two, following pressures from the leaders, the woman’s distraught father Samsher Ali said.
The woman, who was raped last year by a neighbour, Mustafa, now lives with her parents in their thatched hut in the same village, Chandkiwari, in Muzaffarpur district, about 70 km from here. Mustafa is on the run.
Sabia’s parents are facing the ire of the villagers for giving shelter to their “impure” daughter. “No one talks to us; we have no social life. We are treated like animals for no fault of ours,” Samsher Ali lamented.
Says Sabia’s mother: “I fail to understand why my mute daughter was punished when she did not commit any crime. She was rather a victim of the heinous crime of rape. But these people do not realise it.”
Maulana Abdul Haleem, a Muslim leader of the village, however said that as per Islamic law Sabia had become impure due to the rape and the “illegitimate” child.
“We have instructed the villagers to boycott her,” he said without mincing words.
The villagers are following his instruction. “We are bound by the decision to boycott her,” said Pir Mohammad, a villager.
He added: “This is not an individual decision. It was taken by the community.”
Lalan Pandey, in-charge of the local police station, said Sabia or her parents had not filed a police complaint. “If they lodge a complaint, we will try to end the social boycott,” he said.
Sabia’s desperate parents are planning to seek the help of an NGO.

these half learned clerics r bringing bad name to the islam.they people even dont know the basic fundaas of islam and infact enjoyig power n authority by issuing baseless fatwas.unfortunately it is the lower class of the society which is the sufferer.they treat women as slaves.i dont know why these mullha r so bother about the victim instaed of punishing the culprits.

i m a muslim n i hav never heard of a law in islam where it is said that a rape victim is guilty of having been raped.
or she becomes impure etc. this cleric must be a heretic (grave worshipper) because these people do not follow the authentic books of law (hadees) and give their own intepretation of quran which are wrong. so they tend to incline towards the local custom prevalent in their areas . or else if this case had happened in medina (saudi arabia) the rapist would have been hunted down and killed and the girl would have been helped by baitul maal(zakaat fund). apply sharia in india for 5 years and see the change.

this shows we need a universal criminal code rather than having different laws for different religions , still i dont think the cleric followed the islamic law at all while pronouncing the pinushment . i agree with azhar here .. these people (clerics) too need to punished. but in any case this was a criminal act and should be treated as indian penal code .. thats it ..
a rapist’s life should be made a living hell .. where he is kept alive but wishes death and should not be death penalty as talked in some circles.
unfortunantely in india we have life imprisionment for only 14 years (this is the most pathetic law in inda) .. it should be “life” , thats is till he is alive ..

In Sudan muslims kill parents and take children as slaves. There they follow sharia.
Quran says if you kill 1000 s of infidels you get 70 virgins for sex. You cannot expect anything else from muslims.

Punishment should be the other way !!! the poor women got fucked and punished too, shows the unprotective law. If a husband and wife fucks and birth a child society is accepting it as a pure and how come when a raped women giving birth is not accepted !!! After all the birth is the result fucking job only. People must have a broad knowledge and lack of maturity level with the people is all that i can say !!!
