What are we trying to prove by putting so much of stress on this phrase? What’s the big deal if somebody does not take dowry? In my view, not taking dowry is a normal act and we don’t need to elevate such a person and place him on a higher plane. I was personally against taking dowry and I did not. By doing that, I did not attain any special status.

it should be a must & not obligation.
nowadays people who do not take dowry are treated as oucast .
i personally married without dowry 8 years back & was termed as a fool.
But i am the most satisfied person today as i have almost everything and it gives me satisfaction that I made all of it myself from scratch
