An argument between a woman and her son over watching television took a tragic turn in a west Delhi home when he allegedly bludgeoned her to death in a fit of rage, police said on Saturday.

Nirmal Kumari (45), a widow, and her son Gagan, who lived in West Patel Nagar, had an argument over which TV channel to watch.

Gagan then allegedly snatched a short rod used to ground spices and hit her on the head with it.

After some time, he called up police and claimed that two robbers had broken into the house and attacked his mother.

But as there were inconsistencies in his statement, police grilled him upon which he confessed to the murder.

Gagan’s only source of income was a shop he had let out. However, he was not receiving rent for some time and was depressed as a result, police said.
