Bollywood babes won’t go topless!
Janki Shah could find herself in a minority. While she may have lost her top for Mystery-Shaque, there’s little chance that other glam gals in the industry will follow suit.
Even as Shaque producer Vinod Chhabra is trying hard to convince the Censor Board that the topless scene is critical to his film, Bollywood actresses insist that no matter how bold they get, they will never go bare-bosom in public.
“It’s difficult for me to think of going topless for any film or magazine. Although the Indian audience has become far more liberal than before, we still have to keep in mind the social values and traditions with which we have been brought up. I have already done whatever bold scenes I could do and I can’t go beyond that. I have decided that I won’t cross my limits. I will only expose to the extent where it is not uncomfortable for me to sit and watch the film with my family,” says Meghna Naidu.
Sultry beauty Mumait Khan, who swayed to ‘Dekh le’ in the blockbuster movie Munnabhai MBBS, also feels the same. According to her: “At most I can wear a swimsuit. Topless scenes are not my cup of tea. I think we will have to wait a long time before our film industry and our audiences are mature enough to appreciate these kinds of roles. At the moment, there’s no way that I am going to go topless.”
Despite the fact that she has to her credit sizzling appearances in films like Tauba Tauba, Chetna, Fun-Can be Dangerous Sometimes and Laila, Payal Rohatgi too doesn’t want to be a cut above the breast.
“I think we need more time. I can’t imagine any actress who will pose for Playboy-style photos because our society doesn’t allow it. Moreover the question is academic till the time the Censor Board decides to relax its norms. Only then will it be possible for an actress to decide if she wants to go topless or not.
“Personally I won’t be interested to shoot for glamour magazines like Playboy. There are social values that I keep in mind when I expose in films. Although I am willing to wear a very tiny swimsuit as long as my private parts are covered, appearing topless is something that I just won’t do,” she claims.
